The Bound

The Bound addresses soil as an indicator of ecological fragility. Shaped as a vertical section of ground with visible roots, the column is built from stacked segments that recall geological sampling. The root patterns are clay positives taken from plaster negatives of real tree roots. The surrounding “soil” is formed from molded clays with coarse inclusions to create a stratified, eroded surface. Conceived for public space, the work is permanently installed in the public realm.
